How to Connect ChatGPT or Claude to Your Real Estate CRM (MCP Explained, 2026)

Short answer: You connect them through MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard that lets an AI assistant read and update another app after you sign in and approve access. As of October 2026, BoldTrail (kvCORE), Real Geeks, eXp Realty's agent tools and newer AI-first CRMs like Agentype and The Librarian offer MCP connections; Follow Up Boss has no official one, only third-party options. In Claude you add it under Connectors (even the Free plan allows one custom connector); in ChatGPT, full write access depends on your plan and workspace settings.

What MCP actually does for an agent

Without MCP, ChatGPT or Claude only knows what you paste into the chat. With an MCP connection, the assistant can call your CRM's own functions: search contacts, read a lead's history, log a note, create a task or draft a text. You ask in plain English ("Who haven't I contacted in 30 days?" or "Catch me up on Jane Smith before I call") and the assistant pulls the answer from your real data. You sign in to the CRM during setup, so the assistant can only see what your own account can see.

How to connect it in Claude

Claude's custom connectors using remote MCP are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, and Free users are limited to one custom connector. On an individual plan, open Customize > Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste the MCP server URL your CRM vendor gives you, and sign in to the CRM when prompted. Then turn the connector on per conversation from the + menu. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector once and each agent connects with their own login. Claude asks before each tool use unless you change that, which is a good default to keep.

How to connect it in ChatGPT

ChatGPT supports MCP apps too, but availability depends on your plan and workspace. OpenAI's help center says full MCP support, including actions that change data, is rolling out in beta to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, where only admins or owners can add and publish custom apps. Some vendors document connecting individual accounts through Developer mode under Settings. Check your vendor's setup page and your ChatGPT plan before you pay for an upgrade just for this.

Safety settings to check before you turn it on

1) Start read-only or in draft mode. Let the AI look things up and draft messages before you allow it to send texts or emails. 2) Keep approvals on for any tool that sends a message, deletes a record or changes a deal. 3) Use your own login, not a shared admin key, so the AI only sees your contacts. 4) Remember consent rules: an AI that sends texts is still sending automated messages, so read our TCPA guide for AI calls and texts. 5) Mind client privacy: connecting a CRM sends contact details to the AI provider, so review what ChatGPT and Claude do with your data. 6) Only connect servers from your CRM vendor or a provider you trust; you can revoke access in both the AI app and the CRM.

Good first prompts

"What's on my plate today? List overdue tasks and new leads from the last 48 hours." "Find buyers in my database looking in [area] under $[price] and draft a short note about [new listing] for each; don't send." "Summarize my last five conversations with [contact] and suggest one next step." "Log a note that I showed [address] to [contact] today and set a follow-up for Friday." FAQ

How to Connect ChatGPT or Claude to Your Real Estate CRM?

You connect them through MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard that lets an AI assistant read and update another app after you sign in and approve access.

Do I need to know how to code to use MCP?

No. With a hosted MCP server from your CRM vendor, setup is pasting a URL into Claude or ChatGPT and signing in. Coding is only needed if you build your own server or use a command-line tool like Real Geeks' GeekCLI.

Does Follow Up Boss work with ChatGPT or Claude?

Not through an official Follow Up Boss MCP server as of October 2026. Third-party tools offer MCP access to FUB data, usually on a paid plan; vet them like any app that gets access to your database.

Is it free?

The connection itself often comes with your CRM plan (Real Geeks says AI Connect is included with its base platform), but your AI provider may require a paid plan, and Claude's Free plan allows only one custom connector.

Can the AI text my leads on its own?

Some integrations can send emails or texts. Keep approvals on, start with drafts, and make sure you have proper consent before any automated text goes out.
